Brow Waxing and Tinting 101: What's the Difference and Which One Is Right for You

Brows make an outsized difference in how put-together you look and feel and most people don't realize how much until they've had them done properly. We offer both waxing and tinting at Graceology and they do very different things. A lot of clients come in not sure which one they need, or not knowing both are an option.

Brow Waxing

Waxing removes unwanted hair to define the shape of your brow. A good wax doesn't just clean up stray hairs. It gives your brow a defined arch, removes the fine hairs that blur the edges, and frames your face in a way that reads as more polished and intentional.

The difference between shaped brows and unshaped brows is significant, and it's one of those things that's hard to unsee once you've noticed it.

Results typically last 3–6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows. Most clients come in every 4 weeks to maintain the shape. The appointment itself takes about 15 minutes and there's some mild redness immediately after is normal and fades quickly.

One thing worth knowing: adding a wax to a facial appointment is particularly effective. Your pores are open and your skin is prepped from the facial, which makes the wax more comfortable and the cleanup cleaner.

What to expect at your first wax

We'll look at your natural brow shape and talk through what you want before we start. Everyone's brows are different and a good wax works with your natural growth pattern, not against it. If you've been over-plucking and want to grow them back in, we can work around that too and shape what's there while the rest fills in.

Brow Tinting

Tinting adds semi-permanent color to your brow hairs. It makes your brows look fuller, more defined, and more present without anything on your face. If you have light, sparse, or faded brows, tinting gives them the appearance of density and depth that you'd otherwise spend time filling in with a pencil or powder every morning.

The color is applied and processed in about 15 minutes. Results last 3–4 weeks as the color gradually fades with your natural hair shedding cycle.

Tinting is especially popular in summer and it makes sense why. You're wearing less makeup, you're sweating more, you're getting in and out of water. Tinted brows hold up through all of it. You walk out the door looking put-together without having done anything to your face.

Who benefits most from tinting

Tinting is particularly good for people with naturally light or blonde brows, those whose brows have thinned or faded with age, anyone who spends significant time filling in their brows every morning, and people who want a lower-maintenance summer routine.

Which one should you get

If your brows are shapeless, overgrown, or need cleanup: waxing.

If your brows are light, sparse, or you spend time filling them in every day: tinting.

If both apply and for a lot of people they do get both. They're complementary services and the combination gives you the most defined, low-maintenance result. Shaped and filled in, without touching your face.

How long does each one last

Waxing: 3–6 weeks. Tinting: 3–4 weeks. Most clients who do both come back every 4 weeks and take care of both in one appointment.
